Here's the challenge:

Pick an article from the archives that does not have an English translation. Try your hand at translating it.  Everyone wins, as those that take on the translations get a deeper understanding of the vocabulary and the grammar, and those that use the translations get more access to the archives.

Brilliant! We're off.

Chris, Alistair (and anyone else who's joining us on this educational project), could you post the title/link of your next effort? Then we're not duplicating any work -- and there are enough interesting articles to do...

My next is "comment gouter un vin"
http://www.laguinguette.com/lejournal/2004/12cult/

thought I might practice while I read!

Hello

I have  translated another article from La Guiguette, so we now have four.  The latest one is about a garden of scents in the west of France.  The translation still requires a bit of polish, but is complete.  You can find the index of the collection at the following url:

http://www.alistairmills.com/French/LaGuinguette/index.html

Comments and contributions will be welcome.

Chris

Thanks for this.  I have just finished doing the one about the Tour de France.  I do not have time to put it on the web tonight, but I'll do it tomorrow.

I have just updated the index to the translations.  We now have 5 done and 4 promises.  More promises and more translations will be very welcome.

http://www.alistairmills.com/French/LaGuinguette/index.html

Once we have more articles, I may add a search facility to the catalogue, but for the moment this is fine.  Comments welcome,  but contributions will be even more welcome.

I have added three more articles to the collection, so we now have 8 done, and one more on its way.

The index has been changed to make it easier to find the articles, as there is now a facility to sort the table by in columns. :D

Contributions of translations will be especially welcome.  Please let me know if you are intending to do one, so that we can avoid duplication.

I have just added more translations to the collection.  So now we have 13 done, and one on its way.

I am also delighted to add a new active member to the team of translators.  My wife Catherine has just done her first.  So now, there are four of us.

Thanks for the contribution. Unfortunately I cannot download it. Perhaps it is a form which the BB does not support, or it may be ore than 1MB. I see that it is a .gif file. This is an unusual format for a document. Can you try again and send me a .txt, or even a .doc file.

Happy New Year.

Bonne Année à tous et à toutes

We have had more contributions of content to the tranlations of La Guinguette, and now we have five active translators.  We now have 17/98 translated so about 20% of the archive translated, and more on the way!  We welcome Alan Broadstock from England to the team.

I have added a new index which makes it easy to find articles to translate.  There is a table which you can sort by various criteria so that you can find a short article, or a long article!  You will find the table at the following URL:
http://www.alistairmills.com/French/LaGuinguette/traductions.html

I am intending to maintain the existing table too, and you can find it at:
http://www.alistairmills.com/French/LaGuinguette/index.html

At some stage, I may combine these two tables.  I welcome comments on these tables, or anything else for that matter.

Amicalement.

Thank you everyone for all these contributions, I will be liaising with Alistair to see if we can have the translators' permission to incorporate them on the main site in the near future.

Hello Lori (et bonjour a tous et a toutes)

Thanks for your encouraging words.  We have made good progress with more than 50% of the articles now done.  So, if others wish to contribute, then please be quick or the project will be finished!

Those who have contributed (especially Chris, Cathy and Donna) have all remarked how interesting and useful they found doing them.  I think it is also very relaxing and enjoyable, much more so than watching television!

Here is a reminder of the location of the main index for the project:
