Can you explain why this speaker uses the subjunctive [puisse] in this way? I thought that it was NOT used if something is a decided "fact." Merci beaucoup.
It seems that the "doubt" in this case is based upon the uncertainty that she will become a presidential candidate, which is why the subjunctive is used. It is factual that she could be a candidate (if she gets the nomination from the Socialist Party), but whether she will is uncertain.
